The Master Plan, including Environmental Structure, Landscape and Recreation, for Arborfield Garrison represents a comprehensive statement which was implemented in the guidance of the comprehensive redevelopment of 1 square mile of the military establishment.

Directed by William J Cairns in association with Land Use Consultants, the Master Plan redesigned the garrison road system, rationalised the inter-relationships and siting of all built components and created a landscape environment for the whole development. Consideration was given to military personnel, married families and the supporting civilian population.
